Boerne, March 7, 2011: The Boerne Shrine Club hosted its 4th annual Traditional Bluegrass Gospel Music show at the Boerne Convention and Community Center to raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Entertainment was provided by “The Marksmen”, a traditional bluegrass gospel music group from Atlanta, Georgia. The Marksmen are a renowned group providing entertainment around the United States.

The group sang traditional gospel songs interspersed with “G- Rated” jokes. All those attending really enjoyed the show and praised the entertainers and the Shriners for their efforts. The Boerne Shrine Club began hosting the Bluegrass Gospel Show four years ago in an effort to raise additional money to support the Shriners network of 22 pediatric hospitals in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Since their founding in 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have treated more than one million children with orthopedic conditions, spinal cord injuries, burns, or cleft lip and palate. All services are provided at no charge to the patient or families. Children are eligible for care up to the age of 18 if, in the opinion of hospital physicians, there is a reasonable possibility they can benefit from the specialized services available. Applicants are accepted based solely on a child’s medical needs – without regard to race, gender, religion, financial resources, or relationship to a Shriner.

The first Gospel Show was held in 2008 and was so enjoyed by the citizens of Kendall County that it was decided to make it an annual event.. Advertised by word of mouth, each successive performance has drawn larger crowds. 2010’s attendance overflowed available seating and led to a decision to present two separate shows this year – at 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. The Boerne Shrine Club is already looking forward to hosting a 5th annual Bluegrass Gospel Music show next year and will release details when arrangements are complete.
